Manchester United vs Arsenal – Champions League Preview

Manchester United’s 4-1 victory over Arsenal at Old Trafford was their first win over Arsenal since December and United boss Louis van Gaal believes the win will provide the team with a boost ahead of the Premier League title clash with Chelsea.

A win over a team of Arsenal’s quality would be an incredible achievement for Manchester United.

They are now 3-0 up and have the tie in their sights and if they win this match, they have the edge over Chelsea in the title race.

Van Gaal:I am not sure that a team that is in the Champions League this season is capable of winning a game like that, because Arsenal are the best team in the world and they are also a very good team in terms of the quality they play with.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are not good enough to beat Arsenal and if United can get a result in that game, it will be a great achievement.

United lost their second consecutive Premier League game at Old Manchester in the 3-2 defeat at Liverpool in the FA Cup on Saturday and were forced to wait until Wednesday night to get their revenge.

United started brightly in their first-half performance and were in control early on but the hosts went close as substitute Jack Rodwell was sent off in the first minute for a handball.

A first-minute penalty for Jack Rodweid brought a leveller for United and the game was on when Robin van Persie fired a low shot past goalkeeper Hugo Lloris to give Arsenal a 1-0 lead.

Van Persie was substituted late on for the second game in a row and Van Gaal said after the game that he would have preferred to keep his side on top, but he did not make it official before the end of the game.’

We will be very disappointed if we are 2-0 down’United were already looking vulnerable, having given away seven goals in their previous two matches.

However, United’s defensive display in the second half was outstanding, with Van Persie and Rafael van der Vaart providing the goals in both of those matches, with the Dutchman scoring four in the match.’

It was a very, very, tight game, we had a lot of chances to score, but we didn’t manage to do it,’ Van Gaal told reporters after the match, adding that he thought the hosts were ‘very strong’ and that he felt his side had played better in the final 10 minutes of the first half.’

They defended well and created good chances, so that is a positive thing for us.’

But it was a difficult game.

They are a very strong team, but they will be disappointed if they are 2, 3 or 4 goals behind at the moment.’

The team played very well in the last 10 minutes.

We were very strong, and we have to keep working on that.’

I think we did a good job in the two matches, we were very aggressive and created a lot.’

In the first match, we defended well, but it was very tight, so we have some work to do.’

United manager Louis van der Mark has spoken about the importance of winning the title in the Premier Leagues and he believes his side can do so, despite missing the first leg in the cup final.’

There is a reason why the Champions are the Champions Leagues, because they are really important for the club,’ Van der Mark told reporters.’

You have to win them.’

If we can win the title we have a good chance to be Champions League holders.’

And we can do it because we have players who are very strong in the dressing room and we are winning matches.’
